Dixie Chicks Cowgirl Band
|
Critics' Comments"A round and righteous grade A... the Chicks have become the great female hope!"
Country Roger Hooper
"Some record label executives will be kicking themselves soon
enough when the Dixie Chicks are queens of the honky-tonk circuit"
Eric Brace
"The strongest of the three (new local band CDs) is Ross Perot's favorite band,
the Dixie Chicks' Little Ol' Cowgirl. The sound quality is exceptional...
The Chicks' trademark harmonies are equally pristine."

From the road...Mercy! Well, here it is, mid-June in the sunny south, hotter than honeymoon sheets, and we're sitting here looking at our computer screen and do we have some juicy news...On Mayday we had the night of our lives at the Majestic Theatre (thanks to y’all) and our Little Ol’ Cowgirl CD has been sellin’ like hotcakes. Kirkland Bonik (the cutiepie on the cover), turning four years old, had a Little Ol' Cowgirl pony party and we crashed it. On our recent road trip to Arkansas we saw a polka-dotted goat, ate at four different McDonalds within an 80-mile radius, invented a new Scrabble word (quillip) and got stuck behind a tractor going 8 mph near Wateeka, Oklahoma. And WHY were we in Wateeka, Oklahoma (where they offer tanning, toning and Tae Kwondo under one roof)? Because Jeff took a wrong turn while we were huddled in the back of the van rehearsing the "Star Spangled Banner" in hopes of singing at a Rangers game. (We're bound to get Robin to an athletic event yet, and Emily has a hankerin' to meet Raphael Palmolive.) Van update: the price is dropping, will trade. We need vintage western clothing, a mute driver, an unlimited Mary Kay credit line, a record deal and a pedicurist. Not in that order. But next trip Jeff sez, "We pack the gals in the U-Haul and the P.A. in the van." We had four days off, so Laura got out her Cuisinart and made dixie dumplings. She'll be coming out with a scratch 'n sniff cookbook in time for Christmas. Emily has been tanning, toning and Tae Kwondoeing. Robin decided to relive the '60s so, packing up a pup tent, a macrame swimsuit, biodegradable shampoo, very little makeup and strapping her guitar on her back, she headed south to the Kerrville Folk Festival for songwriting inspiration. Meanwhile, Martie is recovering from a major flesh would inflicted by a toy poodle while walking one block from the SMU campus. Her response, "I'm so sure... it was like a total bite." If you like our new CD, please call your favorite radio station and request our music and we'll buy you a new house. Thank you for sending us friendly letters, refrigerator art, pictures of your pets, and vacation souvenirs. After being on the road without the four basic food groups, aerobic exercise classes, REM sleep and a record label, it's such a thrill to return to a pile of clever, warm, inspirational well-wishes from y'all. Keep 'em comin'. If you call the office (214-000-0000) and hear a chipper voice, be sweet to our new assistant, Nancy, who once appeared on Monty Hall's "Let's Make a Deal." We've decided that Bryce's Cafeteria in Texarkana (hometown of Ross Perot) is the gateway to the world. Their coconut cream pie will stand up to your mama's. When posing the question, "To bauble or not to bauble?" Martie sez, "More is more." |
Friends... you can make a diffference!

Editor's Notes:
For this edition, I transcribed the entire Concert Update page. Anyone living in Dallas/Ft. Worth
in the summer of '92 could have seen the Dixie Chicks three times for free! We didn't know what we had...
or at least, most of us didn't. Compare this to the Chicks' current
concert schedule (courtesy Pollstar)
and you'll notice that 1) they don't play for free much any more and
2) they don't play two shows in the same day (see June 26)!
Please note that 000-0000 is not a valid telephone number! I have chosen to censor the phone numbers included in the old copies of the Chick Chat for privacy's sake! The venues' phone numbers may no longer be accurate... and trust me, the Chicks' current office manager does not want to spend the rest of her days answering calls from the group's new 12-year-old fans... send them an email instead to dixiechks@aol.com. If you prefer the older technology, the Concert Hotline is still active at 972-233-9124.
